About The Ontario Guild of Town Criers


The Ontario Guild of Town Criers exists to promote the ancient and honourable art of Town Crying.

  • The Guild was incorporated after Ontario's bicentennial in 1984 and established along the lines of the ancient and honourable guild of Town Criers founded many years ago in England.
  • This is currently the body from which all subsequent guilds of Town Criers have sought guidance.
  • The Ontario Guild of Town Criers had an original membership of 11 but now boasts a membership of 54 Criers in all parts of Ontario and many more associate members from all around the world.
 

 
 
How can a Town Crier promote your celebration/community/town/event/function/or business?

The Ontario Guild of Town Criers is proud to have 54 members who can add colour, ceremony and splendor to any function you may be planning!

The arrival of a Town Crier attired in historical uniform and ringing a hand bell to herald your announcement is always greeted with pleasure from the awaiting audience.

Town criers will make your announcement loud and clear! All Ontario Guild of Town Criers members write their own material. Town Criers tailor each "Cry" to suit your needs and requirements. Our members have performed these duties for many years, and are at easy in all venues, large or small, formal or informal.

All Town Criers are regulated by the Guilds "Code of Ethics" and conduct themselves in an honorable and appropriate manner that always compliments the occasion, making each event special.
  How much do Town Criers charge for their services?
Fees average from $50 each cry to $500 depending on the place and occasion(at the discretion of the Crier). Many Criers attend charity fund-raisers etc. for no fee at all!
